Activities:

Students were introduced to fractions, exploring the different types (different ways a "whole" can be split into equal parts") using foam fraction pieces. They also learned to identify the different parts of a fraction and how to differentiate them from "whole" numbers.

They found different ways to make the pieces equal "1 whole" again, both using the same kind of fraction and different kinds together to see how they fit.

Students played "fraction bingo" which helped then practice identifying the different types of fractions they had learned.

Students played "Fraction War", a spin on the traditional game of "War" which involved them comparing fractions using visuals on cards to determine which fraction between two of them were larger or smaller.
