Daniel Rinard knew he had to get his pregnant fiancee to the hospital after she had gone into labor, but traffic on Interstate 35 Tuesday morning was backed up because of an accident.
So Rinard, of Olathe, Kan., he started driving on the shoulder of the highway, passing a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper. The flashing lights in his rearview mirror may have turned out to be the break he needed.
