I Love My Job.........

Why are certain people on my staff trying to make me hate it ?????

I've never known anything like it, there are 7 of us in the store who SHOULD be working as a team right? no .... they're all stabbing each other in the back trying to outdo each other and genereally bitching constantly.

And the worst ones are my supposed management team !!!!!!! For example on Tuesday from 12noon there was only myself and my deputy manager in, I asked him to man the tills as I had work to do in the office. Now he KNOWS that I never ask ANYONE to stand on the tills for the whole of a long shift and that when it is just the 2 of us in I will take till myself after the afternoon tea breaks and let him run stock and cash up at night so it shouldn't be a problem right? well that's what I thought (let's face it .......how many other store manager's man tills?)

At just before 3 o'clock I went downstairs and said "Away for a cuppa Brian, I've put the kettle on for you" to which he replied "I'm gona nip across to the bakers .......I'm starving" so I replied "oh! if you were hungry you shoudl have shouted for me and you could have taken your break earlier" .... "no no it's ok" was the reply...

Then I find out that when he went to the Baker's he told the girl there (who unknown to Brian is a friend of mine

) "I've been waiting to get off that F*&^%$£ till for the last hour I'm bloody starving and she's been sat up in that office doing nothing"

How childish is that !!!! and he's a 58 year old man !!!!!!!!! I'm afraid I can't help it if he has a complex about his boss being almost half his age and female but he's going to get a shock

I aint gonna name any names to anyone but when I go in today everyone is going to be told that despite previous warnings abotu people being caught bitching it's till happening and as such from now on I will do the same as every other manager ........ leave the till work to other people. I'm gonna make it quite plain that the person they can blame for this is the person who was caught moaning on Tuesday (I can't wait to see his face) and if they dont' like it then tough.

Of course the other shock he's gonna get is that his contracted hours are abotu to get cut ....... a lot. Not my decision this time .... in fact I OFFERED to have my own contract cut as well as Brian so we could split the wage cuts between us ..........I was refused flat lol. He doesn't know it yet but I think he's gonna lose approx a quarter of his contract. I'm sure that he will tell everyone I'm picking on him but I'm gonna ask MY boss (who made the decision) to tell him himself so there can be no confusion.....probably won't stop him bitching about me tho.

So in summary ... if anyone here is fortunate enough to get a promotion to boss status ...... don't do what I did and think that doing the staff favours constantly will work and that you will get favours in return because it won't, all that happens is they expect more and more every day and when you actually expect them to do their job you get slagged off for it. Just be a bitch a from the start and then at least you earn the abuse

Aww thistle, that's too bad. Unfortunately that's very typical of being a boss. I've only ever seen one manager that no one ever complained about or said bad things about him.

I definitely think if people are bitching / gossiping it should be nipped in the bud. There's nothing worse in a workplace than that.

They have a great boss, they're just too self-involved to see it.

That's awful, but unfortunately, nothing new. It starts in school, goes through college and ends with your own job. If you're the boss, it's even worse, nothing you do is right, you're always "that obnoxious..whatever"..and if you're not the boss, but trying to advance in your carrier, you can always expect a lot of back stabbing from your co-workers.

I agree with Mary, Lou you always know how to deal with things in a professionally stern manner, you should give yourself credit for that. I've seen it on the board, and heard you talk about work.... you're a great boss.

I totally agree, there aren't many manager who would participate in the "donkey work" like you do... I know there are approx 6 managers in my dept at work, not a single one of them knows any of the processes we do... that's a minimum of 6 separate tasks we do throughout the process of setting up a client's annuity income.

I love the way you get a little revenger, if you can call it that, but in a professional way

okaaaaaaaaaaay I had a half day on Wed ...... I finished at 12.20 and there were only 2 cages of delivery still to work...easy peasy to finsih by 5.30 (if truth be told it's an hours work at most)

Myself and Cherie went in on Thursday morning and the place was a pigsty !!! and the delivery was still not done

. Now Cherie is not one to take this lightly lmao ..... quite rightly too, she was going to have to clear up work that should have been completed the day before so she made a complaint to me .........

Now as far as I am concerned there was a simple way to wotrk out why this was not done ........ watch the CCTV tapes from the previous afternoon to see what everyone was doing !! as Cherie made the complaint I allowed her to sit in the office with me to view the tape ....... everyoen was working .....perhaps not at full speed but working nonetheless. So as far as I was concerned ther ewas no case of "lazy !"£^^& !"$£$£&^*£$%"

Now Brian has decided to file a complaint against me for allowing Cherie to watch the tape !!!!!!!! WTF !!! she made a complaint ..... I allowed her to see the evidence that did NOT back up her complaint as he is claiming that I violated his privacy !!!!!!!!!

Apparently he told my senior sales that was going to "have a word" with Martin (my boss) because they "go way back" ...... now Martin DID used to be area manager at Brian's last job ..... however when I asked Martin's opinion on Brian's suitability for the job he told me (and I quote) "I don't know Brian ......I wouldn't know him if I walked past him on the street".

Now I have sat on this for months now and let Brian have his delusion that he and Martin are great friends but this time I have had enough and I'm going to tell him straight to quit the lies and I will tell him exactly what Martin told me.

I swear giving that man the deputies job was the biggest mistake I have made in this job ....... I just wish it was easy to rectify

Exactly !!

I have done nothing but do this guy favours........fix his mistakes........make excuses for him as to why mistakes were made and generally saved his ass on many an occassion.

I went to work yesterday determined to rake Brian over the coals for what he was saying about reporting me ...

I never got the chance !!! he straight away decided to tell me (WORD FOR WORD) about how Danielle wanted to report for allowing Cherie to watch the video tape ......

okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay .......... Dan says Brian said it ..............Brian says Dan said it :s

I cannot prove either way which one of them is lying, all I know is that ONE of them is. And what is worse they are lying to get another member of staff into trouble !! if this isn't bad enough both these people are my support MANAGEMENT !!!!!!!

What hope is there for this store if the damn management team can't even back each other up ???? Cherie even phoned me at home tonight ........

Now she has taken this week off as a last minute holiday because she is so sick of all the backstabbing that's going on. She has set working hours to fit in around her childcare and she told me that she was willing to sacrifice that legal right so that she wasn't left to work with either Dan or Brian on my days off, normally she only works in the mornings when her son who is 3 goes to nursery but she told me that if meant ONLY working with me in charge that she is willing to pay for a childminder in the afternoon !!!!!!!


This is ridiculous!! I've saved Brian and Dan the trouble of reporting me .......... I reported the whole damn story myself and my boss is coming down on Thursday to get to the bottom of it all.


I just wish that "being a pain in the ass" was a legal reason for sacking people lol
 
That is shocking!! Do these two know that Cherie is willing to pay childcare just to escape the nonesense? All I can say is.... are they FIVE years old!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
lol I think they are !!

The funniest thing is that neither of them have anything to gain from all this .... Dan will never get Brian's job and likewise it would be a cold day in Hell before Brian was given my job if I left (Martin has already told me this much)

The only people with anything to gain are myself and Cherie lol. If they get the sack I promote cherie to senior sales and get a new deputy (who I will insist Martin appoints next time as is his job). so cherie get's more money, I get less stress and Brian and Dan are out of a job.

If they dn't grow up then that is the scenario I seriously think will be here before the year is up lol.

That is AWFUL. I can't stand gossip like that, it's so destructive. Unfortunately it's like that everywhere and no matter where you work you'd find people like that.
