Whilst at a partry held by Paris Hilton's Ex boyfriend Rick Salomon , Leonardo was hit by a bottle, he needed about a dozen stitches to close a wound near his ear

It was about 4 am when a woman hit him on the head with what appeared to be a beer bottle, friends took him to hospital were he received a dozen stitches

"While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had repeatedly been asked to leave the property," DiCaprio's publicist, Ken Sunshine, said in the statement.

This incident is not expected to affect his work on Martin Scorsese movie, The Departed, which is shooting in Boston and New York

Leonardo DiCaprio filed a report Monday afternoon with Los Angeles police after he was attacked with a deadly weapon.

Police said in a statement: “The incident occurred during the early morning hours of June 17 when Mr. DiCaprio was attending a party at the home of a friend in Hollywood Hills. As a result of the assault, Mr. DiCaprio suffered a laceration to the left side of his neck, requiring several sutures. The investigation is ongoing and no one is in custody at this time.”

DiCaprio’s publicist said,"While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had been repeatedly asked to leave the property. The attacker struck him with a glass object before being restrained by witnesses. The woman was reportedly looking for an ex-boyfriend, who she had apparently physically assaulted on prior occasions."

DiCaprio was taken to the hospital by friends after the incident, where he was given a dozen stitches
