A one-year-old boy has been mauled to death by a Rottweiler while spending the Christmas holidays at his grandparents' house.
Archie-Lee Andrew Hirst was ripped from the arms of a 7-year-old girl who had been carrying him to stroke the animal, according to police.
The dog, who has now been destroyed, dragged the boy into the garden of the house in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and refused to release him.
His 16-year-old aunt tried bravely to wrestle Archie-Lee free but the Rottweiler kept its grip. She then called the emergency services from her mobile phone.
Paramedics arrived at the property within six minutes, and found Archie-Lee in the yard. Police marksmen arrived three minutes later, and shot the dog shortly afterwards.
