My mom gets them every year as well. You should protect your thyroid, because all that radiation can go directly to your thyroid. My mom was told about that recently, kinda late tho, because she is almost 60, but now on she will be asking the radiologist to protect her thyroid during the mammogram.I'm so glad I'm not 40 yet, I dread the mammogram as well, once every year sounds a lot to me, but breast cancer is no fun! Right now I get a sonogram scan every 6 months, just to be sure, because I took BCP for a long time.
