I think most of us at one stage compare new partners with an ex, because that's what you know and expect. It maybe subconscious, and is best to keep it to yourself. Usually it does go, but sometimes you can't help it.

I believe in being genuine/honest, and in testing for at least a degree of unconditional nature, even from, and perhaps especially from, early on in a friendship. Why, because the faster you can get to know what makes a guy tick early on the safer you`ll be. The old tapes of past relationships play back because we are all no more than the sum total of past experience. Explain this to him. The test is on, and you must expect him to be nothing less than reasonable. The most common mistake is in not deliberately testing/permitting testing to happen in its own time, for in its own time is too often too late, and always too late in incidentcies of psychopaths. Remember, there are no statistics for behind closed doors.
