I'm sorry to say it, but 5 years is way to long. That mother clearly has a problem and sadly she will pass it on to her kid. Creating such an attachment is unhealthy. I think the breastfeeding shouldn't last for more than a year. It's more than enough for the kid to take all the nutrients he needs from the milk, to get used with the solid foods and not to get very attached.
