Here is a very comprehensive list of what you may need to take to Hospital with you.

What I found incredibly useful during labour was Magicool which is a facial spray that stays cool and feels great! Also Energy sweets to suck on and bottled water. An old black t-shirt and a pair of socks helped too!

The magicool sounds great. It would definetely feel great during labor. I think that some lotion is a great idea as well, and some hair ties or something for your hair to keep it off your face, especially if you have long hair.

Great ideas. I might add that it's very important to pack early... I got a bit overzealous with my daughter and was packed far ahead of time. Well! The night I went into labor five WEEKS early was suddenly a whole lot easier for me. Just had to grab the case instead of packing it. :)

Yes Katharina, packing early is a great idea. One just never knows. I think that you need to have it all ready because in the weeks leading up to having your baby there is so much to do.

There was just one initial moment of "oh no, I need to pack!" and then when I remembered it was done, we just needed to head for the car. :)

I remember packing and re packing several times. Remember to have enough baby clothes, new born babies can make a terrible mess if their nappy leaks!
  7. I was packed way before I had to go to the hospital. Thankfully, I had purchased a brand new soft, flannel nightgown that I was able to wear after my baby was born. The nurse griped that she could not do her procedures cause of my gown. But, I told her the regular bed pad beneath me was scratching at my back.

After spending a whole 24 hours laying on that scratchy bed pad, I was thankful for the dreamy softness of my own nightgown in the cold hospital. I think my baby liked it too. She didn't ever want to go back to the nursery and would cry when they tried to take her away.

Great suggestions! I am going to have to add that Magicool to my bag ;). I have four weeks to go but am already almost all packed. Just need to pick up a few more things.. such as a fan. I also learned of this great invention called a "Scent Bug", it can be purchased from Bath and Body Works. It helps keep the room smelling good and you can choose from many relaxing scents to put add to the scent bug.

Honestly, the hospital is going to provide you with almost everything you are going to need. Most of the things I packed never even got used. They provided everything for the baby... All I needed was an outfit for pictures and a going home outfit. For myself, all I would have needed are my daily essentials, make up, face wash, comfy clothes. That's it. You're only going to be there for 2-3 days anyways.

You must have been in a much nicer hospital than I was. They tried to refuse to let me take my infant home because we forget the blanket and they were determined to snatch back every single thing he had used while in the hospital. They were complete jerks. My friend finally had to drive home and get our blanket.

Sounds like an awful experience :( Yes, the hospital here in Wisconsin that I was at was wonderful. They sent us home with all the basic supplies (a small pack of diapers, lotion, comb, baby wash, pacifier, etc). I guess I though this was "the norm". Maybe you can call the hospital ahead of time to set up a tour. Then you could ask about what is and what is not provided to you.
