London - British human rights activist Norman Kember arrived in London's Heathrow airport on Saturday after being held hostage in Iraq for nearly four months.
Kember, a 74-year-old Briton, and fellow hostages Jim Loney and Harmeet Sooden both from Canada, were freed in Baghdad early Thursday by a British-led multinational force.
The three were among a group of four men seized in the Iraqi capital on November 26 last year. The bullet-riddled body of the fourth man, American peace campaigner Tom Fox, was found in a Baghdad street on March 9.
All four worked for the Christian Peacemaker Teams, a Chicago- based organization.
Before his arrival in Britain, Kember had been criticized by the British military for not openly expressing gratitude for his rescue. A pacifist organization, Christian Peacemaker Teams however on Saturday thanked the soldiers, saying praise for their actions was initially overlooked in the excitement of the rescue itself.
