Coldplay are to headline the entertainment at this year's Brit Awards, as Chris Martin's band of merry men top a stellar bill of the cream of the country's musicians.

Martin, who is reportedly becoming a father for a second time, will be the main draw at the awards. Coldplay are expected to be nominated for a handful of awards, including best British band and best album.

Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, who hosted the ceremony last year and will be doing so again this year, revealed the nominations for the British live act gong over the weekend, for which Coldplay scooped their first nomination.

The X&Y band will be up against quirky Leeds rockers, the Kaiser Chiefs, purveyors of angular guitar music from north of the border, Franz Ferdinand, Scottish songstress KT Tunstall, and Manc bad-lads, Oasis.

Both KT Tunstall and the Kaiser Chiefs will be performing on the night, as will James Blunt, Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson.

An insider told the Daily Mirror: 'Brits bosses are still working on getting Oasis, Madonna and even Kate Bush on board.'

The ceremony, on February 15th at London's Earl's Court, will be closed by veteran rocker, the modfather himself, Paul Weller.

The former The Jam and Style Council frontman will be staggeringly giving his first ever Brits performance on the night. Weller is picking up the award for lifetime achievement.
