I tried this once before with bad results, but some friends have found partners and am thinking of another go, but maybe a more specialized site. Do you find online dating more acceptable these days or would you try it just to see what is available?

I think it works for some lucky ones.. But I'm not a fan of online dating because I believe that there are more interesting people out there who have real lives apart from being a character in the virtual world. I think online dating is like fishing in a vast ocean, wherein you'll never know what kind of fish you're gonna get. The unlucky ones may even catch a strange creature that bites.

I think using Tinder and Gaydars and sites where you rate others on their appearance is awful. It can be good to satiate your curiosity, but I just don't like the concepts of those site.

However my mom did find her partner on a dating website, around seven or eight years ago, and they've been working it strong ever since. But I think that she had no picture, only wrote long mails with guys before even thinking of meeting them, and was looking for a man who had a kid of their own so they'd be 'mature' too. He was the only one she met, and they did hit it off, it seems. :) So it can work, for sure.

Tinder and Gaydar are hook up sites and not dating sites, however two of my gay friends did find partners with Gaydar.

I know online dating is a big business these days too, but are people settling for the sake of it because they want a partner or do they really get lucky and find the love of their life? I still believe in Fate and Cupid, but it doesn't hurt to see how it all works. Maybe Cupid is working online now!:D

Oh, that makes sense about Tinder and Gaydar. I guess I just all put it in the same "finding someone online" bag.

I don't believe in Fate or Cupid. I think that meeting people online is just a different way of meeting someone. Once you've met someone, whether it be in real or online, it really depends on the both of you, the situations you have and how you feel about each other. I get that people like "meet cute" stories, but I think it really isn't as significant as just the "getting to know someone else" part.

I know some people who have met online and in theory, it's an interesting way to meet someone. It cuts out some of the anxiety of getting to know someone for the first time, particularly if your shy or introverted. Unfortunately, there are a lot of predators, and just plain fakers out there that makes this way of dating a bit of a risk, but if your careful and take your time, online dating may be a great option.

This is similar to "personal ads" and stuff like that from back in the day. I was never a fan. I guess I was afraid I'd meet a predator. I do know people who had success with such things though. I know people who met online as well. I guess it can work if you take your time and get to know someone, just like a "regular" (for lack of a better word) relationship.

Online dating is an easy way to find someone. The thing is you have to be careful that these people are safe because you haven't met them in person yet. It is definitely a more modern way to meet people. People seem to have success with online dating so I think you should give it another try.

Maybe one day, but I think Fate has something to do with things. I have another friend who has found someone through another site, but again she was looking for someone as she was tired of being alone. She had admitted the attraction is limited, but he is a nice man. Unfortunately there is baggage as the ex-wife wants the house which will leave him with not a lot of money. I know money isn't the issue, but often online dating means some issues will be hidden and trying to find them out without being a snoop can be hard.

I think as time goes on it sadly becomes a lot more normal and not a weird thing. I also would rather have met someone online than in a bar. I've heard a lot of good things about Ok Cupid from friends who find boyfriends there, but haven't tried it myself. For me, I just really want a good old fashioned you look up and there they are sort of deal. However, I think if you live somewhere where it's hard to meet people, go for it! You can only tell so much about a person without meeting them and attraction online does not mean attraction in real life.
