Have you ever considered getting a masters degree?

I was wondering if you guys have ever considered taking a masters degree. After I graduated in college, I was supposed to take an engineering teaching position which required me to get a masters degree however I went to do something else so that never came to light.

My sister has a masters because she was sponsored by her work. It's definitely an accomplishment on her part.

How about you guys?

I haven't. I spent a fortune on my bachelor's degree that I'll be paying on for years....and I haven't even gotten to use it, technically. I have no real desire to continue schooling at this point. Maybe later on, but only if I can afford it outright.
 
I almost we back to graduate school. In my field, an advanced degree meant a much better job and pay. But I got sidetracked and never went back. Now, I'm a bit too old to go back. Plus, I would have to take the graduate exams again. Not only do I not remember my scores, I'm sure they are too old to count.
 
I am in the same boat as Quirky Jessi. I am still paying so much for my B.S. that I couldn't possibly try to pay for more schooling. I would want to get my MBA though and have thought about getting it online.
 
I don't know if an MBA is the most marketable degree, a lot of people are suggesting that it may not even help you get a job. It might be better to work your way up from the bottom of a company.

AUGH this market is terrible. Frankly, I would even suggest seeing if you have a marketable skill and building a business out of it. No jokes. Check out the $100 startup, it does a great job of explaining this idea.

I have recently discovered this book. I purchased the Kindle version and my head is spinning with great ideas. This book has me thinking outside the box. I'm not interesting in the nomad lifestyle, but the other advice is excellent.
 
That is too much schooling for me. I got a certificate, and I think that even an associates would have been too much for me. I never liked school much at all.
I feel that if you do get a masters you have to be in a certain field to use it to your advantage. There are so many people out there with masters and they do not even use it in their career field that they are in today.

It would be great if a company or institution can sponsor us, perhaps the place where we work.

After my graduation I began working full time, so did not consider further studies. The idea of doing my Masters is very appealing but the postgraduate fees are so high and I cannot afford it.

I have done a few top-up certificate and diploma courses and even trained as a teacher but a Master's is a dream that has been put aside until I have more money for it. It is not so much to improve my prospects but the idea of going back to higher education and gaining a master's degree that is appealing.
 
I just wrapped up my honours degree last week and look forward to a break from studying. I may pursue a masters degree in my late twenties or early thirties but I want to enjoy a little freedom for the time being. :) It'll also be nice to spend more time with family and friends instead of studying late at night ha ha.

Well, don't give up. Learning is a constant process. I am sure you'll be able to accomplish your academic dreams in due time.

My sister is a hard worker. I can understand why she'd grab every opportunity to get better credentials.
 
Actually, I have a masters degree (in polish philology). Now I plan to get another one, in philosophy. I already have bachelor's degree in philosophy. What can I say, I just love studying:p
 
At some point in time I will get my masters degree in psychology...right now, i only have an honors degree. I do not really care about the degree as much as the fact that I can only practice as a psychologist once I have the masters degree.
 
Education is definitely expensive but that isn't going to impede me from obtaining a master's degree. I plan to get a doctorate's degree as well. Unfortunately, I am still in college trying to complete my bachelor's degree and it has been the longest four years of my life. I think there will be plenty of job opportunities if I have an advance degree and I would do anything to make myself more employable, especially with today's economy.

I've decided to go back to university. I'm going to have to work hard and get new A levels to do the course I want but I am soooooo interested in my course subject that I think it's going to be worth it. And if I do well in it I would love to go on and get a doctorate :)
